About West of the Moon

This web site is the online home of West of the Moon, a toy store on Salt Spring Island, in British Columbia, Canada.

West of the Moon was founded in 1995 by Marla Sloan. The name of the store comes from an old Norwegian fairy tale called East o' the Sun and West o' the Moon which was a childhood favourite of Marla's.

The store has become a favorite, not just for islanders, but for the thousands of tourists who flock to Saltspring every year from around the world. And now, with the opening of its online shopping cart, it is becoming a favorite for the virtual traveler, too.

On September 1st 2001, islanders, Mark and Carin Perrins purchased West of the Moon. They had always loved the store, so when the opportunity arose,they couldn't resist.

They will endeavour to carry on Marla's vision of what a great toy store should be.

As long as Carin, Mark and their staff continue to bring people together with exceptional toys and books, wishes will continue to be fulfilled West of the Moon.
